BERLIN LABEL
OUT OF STRUCTURE was founded by designer Roxy in 2021 to pursue the goal of sustainable clothing. Through the selection of individually chosen second-hand pieces, which are sewn into unique pieces, OUT OF STRUCTURE pursues an innovative, sustainable and individual approach.
LOCAL.
OUT OF is based in Friedrichshain. Here on the 4th floor in our studio each garment is designed with love. The Berlin influence is decisive for the style of OUT OF and reflects the young Berlin vibe.
The photoshoot for OUT OF was made possible by my group of friends who are all from Berlin. Everyone was able to give their creative input and helped reflect what OUT OF stands for - creative, individual and different.
None of the models have done a photoshoot before. They are friends, who want to support a sustainable label and also have fun wearing the clothes and feel comfortable with it. They should showcase the clothes because they are the people I made the clothes for in the first place.
SUSTAINABILITY.
The topic of sustainability is of particular concern to OUT OF. Between 2000 and 2015, the number of textiles sold within the apparel industry doubled worldwide, from just under 50 billion to over 100 billion garments (Reichert, 2019). This increase in consumption is fueled by fast fashion. Fast fashion describes how trends change on a monthly basis. In this process, garments are produced quickly and cheaply to sell to the masses. However, this also means that clothing is less durable. Trends are chased and clothes are bought for little money, which are then quickly out again, only to be sorted out. In Germany alone, around 1.1 million tons of textiles are thrown away every year (Greenpeace, 2015).
In addition, companies often do not know what to do with unsold goods. Since storage costs are too high, the rest is often simply burned. This huge consumption also has serious consequences for the environment and climate change. The burned garments release chemical substances into our air that are not harmless. In addition, the textile industry now produces almost 100 million tons of textile fibers each year, generating around 1.2 billion tons of CO2 (Reichert, 2019).
Therefore, OUT OF has set itself as a mission to counteract this problem with upcycling. At OUT OF, clothes are selected from second-hand stores and sewn around them to make them wearable again. This gives the opportunity to buy vintage clothes in modern trend style without having to resort to fast fashion.
INDIVIDUALITY.
Through fast fashion, the individuality in style is lost, which OUT OF wants to bring back. With the approach of OUT OF, where no clothing item can exist twice, each piece of clothing turns out to be absolutely unique and makes your style distinctive. Small chain details on the clothes, should stand as a trademark and makes the clothes stand out from the other labels.
HANDMADE.
All items at OUT OF are made by hand. The clothing pieces are selected from second-hand stores from Berlin and are individually redesigned for you. Even the jewelry is made for you by hand in a Berlin apartment.
